I will be sending Larry good mental messages that he stay safe & out of trouble. And call his mom & sister for sure.
I recently became Facebook friends with a high-school friend's older sister, who, I've come to find out is a complete crazy-town conservative whose status updates all consist of unabashed Obama-hatred.
I'd been ignoring them, until she posted a "Congratulations Brazil!" + a bunch of jingoistic BS about how now he can focus on the wars & the military.
All I could think of was that story you told me about Larry, about his first deployment. It was right after Hurricane Katrina, and his actual deployment date got moved up all of a sudden. You said that he said he felt like they were trying to get them out of the country as soon as possible so that they wouldn't have to go to the gulf region to help out there.
And then there was that other time, where he talked of going on extremely dangerous missions, and the accompanying sinking feeling that there was a hope that something (bad) might happen to justify being there in the first place.
When Larry is in Iraq, I find I have little tolerance for any/all things politics.
As a sister, I think about when he came to visit me at ODU, when we went to the Korn concert. I think about when he turned 21 and *i* DRANK too much and threw up, and I think about on how when a major job interview fell through he sent me "good luck flowers"..he sent them sooner but they got here late..lol.
Then I think about being a big sister, and how this is the only time I can't do anything to help him. I can't beat up anyone or pay for anything..I can just be still and wait for him to call and god willing say that things are boring..and sandy.
I have a few conservative NObamas in my fb roster as well, I blocked them as well as the ones that spend all day taking quizzes. Best feature invented.....
